CVS закрывает десятки аптек внутри магазинов Target

CVS Health, the largest drugstore chain in the United States, has announced plans to close several pharmacies located inside Target stores. This decision comes as CVS faces mounting costs and aims to streamline its retail operations. The closures, which will affect a number of CVS' 1,800 locations within Target stores, will begin in February and conclude by early April. A CVS spokesperson stated that the closures are part of an effort to realign our national retail footprint and reduce store and pharmacy density.

Impacted employees will be offered comparable positions within CVS, ensuring a smooth transition. Prior to the closure of each affected location, prescriptions will be transferred to nearby CVS Pharmacies to ensure uninterrupted access to pharmacy care for patients. CVS had previously warned investors in August about increasing expenses in its pharmacy and insurance business, which would impact profits in the coming years.

In response, the company implemented a restructuring plan last year, resulting in the elimination of 5,000 positions. This move by CVS follows similar cost-cutting measures taken by other major pharmacy chains. Walgreen's recently announced its goal to reduce expenses by $1 billion in the current fiscal year, while Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy last year. CVS has been operating pharmacies within Target stores since late 2015, when it acquired the business from the retailer for approximately $1.

9 billion. Target, a Minneapolis-based company with nearly 2,000 discount stores across the US, referred inquiries for comment to CVS. It is worth noting that CVS had previously announced plans to close around 900 of its 9,000 stores between 2022 and 2024. As of the end of 2023, approximately 600 of those locations had already been shut down. These strategic moves reflect the evolving landscape of the retail pharmacy industry and the need for companies to adapt to changing market conditions.
